Cub Scouts is a year-round program where boys and girls in Kindergarten through 5th grade are introduced to the basic tenets of Scouting. Youth engage in various indoor and outdoor activities, such as campouts, games, and skill-building meetings. All Cub Scouts participate in advancements that focus on personal fitness, personal safety, reverence, citizenship, and outdoor skills. And, they do all this while making new friends and having fun!
Within the Cub Scout pack, scouts are divided into grade level groups called “dens.” In the den, Cub Scouts develop new skills and interests, practice sportsmanship and good citizenship, and learn to do their best, not just for themselves but for the den as well. Each den is led by volunteer Den Leaders and Assistant Den Leaders, who plan and lead weekly activities. Family is also a very important aspect of scouting with Pack 51. Parents and adult family members provide leadership and support for Cub Scouting. We cannot do this without your support and involvement!
In Den Meetings, scouts work towards earning advancements. Your scout will receive a belt loop or pin for each adventure completed, usually at a monthly Pack Meeting. After completing a certain amount of required and elective adventures, Cub Scouts will earn their rank patches. Pack 51 plans a fun Rank Advancement ceremony every May to celebrate the achievements of all our Scouts!
Pack 51 tries to reduce costs by maintaining a uniform closet, where families may pass down their gently used uniform items. We also participate in Alamo Area Council's annual popcorn fundraiser to help fund activities, awards, and pack fees. Additionally, Pack 51 has a goal each year of fundraising enough to cover the annual registration for our adult volunteers.
